Charles M. Schulz said of Valentine’s Day “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” I definitely agree however, I would add to his comment by saying “a lot of chocolate paired with Proseco, and a good movie doesn’t hurt either.”
Valentine’s Day is approaching, which I recently read is the second runner up for most cards purchased and sent (Christmas, of course wins). According to Wikipedia, The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately 190 million valentines are sent each year in the US. Half of those valentines are given to family members other than husband or wife, usually to children. When the valentine-exchange cards made in school activities are included the figure goes up to 1 billion, and teachers become the people receiving the most valentines. The average valentine’s spending has increased every year in the U.S, from $108 a person in 2010 to $131 in 2013 ( I didn’t find more recent data).

Ideally I like a little “out of the box” thinking when it comes to Valentine’s Day so I compiled a list of 10 Things to Do for Valentine’s Day (or that weekend since it falls on a Sunday) in Pearland, and surrounding Houston area:
1.) Houston Museum of Natural Science: For $5 you came a cockroach at the Cockrell Butterfly Center.. Hmm, ok.. sounds romantic. According to HMNS “On Valentine’s Day, give the ultimate symbol of Endless Love, a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach.” www.hmns.org
2.) Alley Theater “All The Way,” playing through February 21. This probably goes without saying but it is adult themed. www.alleytheater.com
3.) Discovery Green – Field of Light, a dazzling art installation that ends February 21.
4.) Valentine’s Day cruise with Star Fleet Yachts.. www.starfleetyachts.com
